5000 hp Mine Hoist Motor & VFD

Arrow Speed and TMEIC recently supplied a 5000 hp, 63 RPM, 3.3 kV overhung motor and VFD for a mine hoist project in Northern Ontario.

This is a unique motor not only for its high hp and low RPM but it is an overhung design which means the motor itself has no rotor bearings - the rotor is attached to the end of the hoist drum and is cantilevered out into the the motor stator. 

Since the hoist drum was not available for the motor test, TMEIC had to construct temporary bearings to support the rotor during testing.
